How much does a boat cost?

Are you going to buy a boat for the first time? That is a wonderful prospect! However, it is important to find out in advance how much you will have to spend each year on things like maintenance and insurance. That way you will be well prepared when you take to the water.
To take into account: how much does a boat cost?
  • Boat insurance. It is wise to take out insurance for your boat, although this is not compulsory in the Netherlands. Then you can go out on the water with an easy mind. Wherever you sail. You choose how extensively you insure your boat. Get good advice and choose the insurance that suits you best.
  • Boat mooring costs. In addition to the costs of insurance, you also have to pay berthing fees. Do you want to know how much these are? Ask the marinas in Central Limburg about this. Do you not use your boat in the winter? Then you also pay for the stay in the dry dock.
  • Boat maintenance and fuel costs. You also need to take into account regular maintenance and fuel costs. These depend on the type of boat you buy.
  • Unforeseen costs boat. Finally, it is good to include unforeseen costs in your budget. That way you avoid unpleasant surprises.
Overview of your costs
Unfortunately there is no exact formula to calculate the annual costs. How much you pay each year depends, among other things, on the type of boat, how often you sail it and how well you maintain it. But on average, annual costs are 10% of the purchase price. To find out if this is true for you, add up your costs. This may take some time, but it ensures that you don't have to worry about anything while sailing. Well, that is enjoyment!

The Purchase Process: How Does It Work?

If you are working with a yacht broker for the first time, it’s helpful to understand how the purchase process works and what you can expect from us.

Orientation and Making an Offer

Do you have a yacht in mind? You can schedule a viewing without obligation to determine if the yacht meets your expectations. A technical inspection is not necessary at this stage. 

Based on your impression, you can make an offer. We act as an intermediary and negotiate on your behalf with the yacht's owner.

Price Agreement and Purchase Agreement

Once we have agreed on the price, we will draw up a purchase agreement. This usually includes a clause making the purchase subject to a survey by an expert. 

When signing the agreement, we request a 10% deposit. This amount will be held in a secure third-party escrow account.

Survey and Finalization

An expert will carry out a comprehensive survey of the yacht. If any issues are found, the seller will resolve them or compensation will be offered if you prefer to handle the repairs yourself. 

If the issues are too significant, you can cancel the purchase.

Final Payment and Delivery

Once the issues are resolved and you are satisfied, you pay the remaining 90%. This amount will also be securely held in the third-party escrow account. Once you confirm that the yacht meets your expectations, you will sign the delivery document. 

Only then will the funds be released to the seller, and we will schedule the official handover.

Handover and Transfer

Together, we will carefully review all documentation so you know exactly what you are purchasing. We will also inspect the yacht to ensure all issues have been addressed. Of course, we will provide you with explanations on the onboard equipment and key systems. 

Once everything is clear and meets your satisfaction, we will officially hand over the keys and your new boating adventure can begin.
