It is no news that boat sales have soared in the past two years. At the end of the year 2021 it is time to look back. "It was a special year in many ways," says Arie Drenth, owner of Bestboats International Yachtbroker. "The demand for yachts was huge. Both used and new boats are popular among water sports enthusiasts. And it's not just in the Netherlands that the boats are in short supply. We are also working hard internationally to meet the demand."
In September, Bestboats was at the
Cannes Yachting Festival in France. "It was amazing. It is unique to be there as a Roermond company on the stands of
Riviera Yachts and
PIRELLI. These top brands are highly regarded internationally. For example, we sold a brand new Riviera to an owner in Saint Tropez," says Drenth proudly. "To top it off, in the same week we sold a PIRELLI that we will ship to Ibiza. We were also working in Cannes on a delivery to Malta and an application for Croatia."
Great successFor Bestboats, Cannes was a great success. "Next year we will be there again," confirms Drenth. He does, however, recommend passing on your preferred boats in advance. "The sale of yachts, both new and pre-owned, goes very fast. So be on time if you are considering buying or selling a yacht.
The charm of water sports
For years, an ageing population and cheap airline tickets caused a decline in the number of boats in Europe. The corona crisis put an end to this decline, which started in 2010. The owner of Bestboats acknowledges that the corona crisis gave a strong impulse to yacht sales. "Because everyone had to stay at home, people rediscovered the charm of water sports. With a boat you can also relax close to home. Water sports enthusiasts like to invest in that. This is reflected in the sales figures. For the second year in a row, sales of yachts increased."
Trade-in option
Unique to Bestboats' approach is the trade-in option that the yacht broker offers to boat sellers. "We like to do that, because the demand for used boats is high. To meet the demand of our customers, we like to provide
as many used boats as possible. Moreover, we help the sellers of these used boats to sell their yacht quickly."
Buying a boat? Act fast!
When asked
what is the best time to buy a boat, Drenth answers: "As soon as possible! For a new yacht you have to take into account a delivery time of 6 to 8 months. At this moment, even delivery times of 1 to 2 years are the 'new normal'. In order to guarantee fast delivery times, Bestboats has several new build boats in stock!
